A Few Days on Mt. Hood

This is what we did on Mt. Hood before meeting Doris and David again at Sun River on the way to Yellowstone.
David took us on a little hike down from Timberline Lodge. Being among trees below the tree line was beautiful, and there were lots of flowers because it had rained not long ago.

Robin really wanted to climb rocks. (We have fond memories of an afternoon among big boulders in the Canadian Rockies.)

The game room in the lodge has a Shuffle Board, table tennis
and a big screen for watching DVDs.

These cute chipmunks were close to the lodge.

I met bird watchers with a telescope and managed to take this shot. Yeah, I know, I'm being mooned. But still

This is the tree as it looked without telescope (but with 3x tele!). The bird is in the marked spot.

In the evening I took a hike up to the first patch of snow.

The snow is all dirty. One can imagine how large glaciers form a landscape the same way this little ice patch does, on a larger scale.

The support struts of the Palmer lift. The first attempt in 1979 was literally blown over. This is really high mountain area.

I think this is Silcox hut, located in the middle of the ski slopes in winter.

Far below the last main snow I found this ice in a little valley. The dark long diagonal stretch is actually ice covered in dirt.

The next day we went to the fun park which is the summer version of the ski bowl at Mt. Hood. We love summer sledding (we had done that a while ago in the Czech mountains), and the trampoline bungees.

Dr. Teller is part of Michelle's family history.
She used to fly on his lap in her grandfather's plane.

The pictures have been taken with my Sony RX100. I did not do much editing. The most notable exceptions are the chipmunks which are cropped and enlarged. As always, big versions of the pictures can be found in the folder big.
