| I have finally put up the pictures from our summer vacation (one should generally try to do that before the next one).
One visit with dear friends stood each at the beginning and at the end of this year's summer vacation. We started in Portland where Doris and David hosted us so nicely. They always make us feel at home. They somehow managed to spontaneously join us for a day at the fabulous Timberline Lodge. And then they rented a house in Sunriver where we stayed with them for a couple of days before we went on to Yellowstone. On the way back to Europe we stopped in Ney York City where Jennifer and Alex with their daughter Lila had moved recently, after two years in Berlin. Lila had been Robin's school mate and we had become close friends during that time. Jennifer and Alex invited Sondra too so that we could see her without flying to Texas. The Dupuy/Burrell family hosted us wonderfully at their place in Manhattan and they all, Lila included, showed us the city they live in. It was a more relaxed and leisurely Manhattan visit than I would ever have imagined. And that although there are probably more cars in Manhattan than in Yellowstone! (I know, it's hard to imagine.) |
Endlich habe ich die Bilder von den letzten Sommerferien hochgeladen. Das soll man
ja immer tun, bevor die nächsten beginnen.
Je ein Besuch bei lieben Freunden stand am Beginn und Ende unserer Ferien diesen Sommer. Wir begannen in Portland, wo Doris und David unsere wunderbaren Gastgeber waren. Bei ihnen fühlen wir uns immer zu Hause. Irgendwie haben sie es spontan fertiggebracht, sich zwischendurch einen Tag freizunehmen, um ihn mit uns auf Mt. Hood einen Tag in der tollen Timberline Lodge zu verbringen. David nahm uns dort auf eine kleine Wanderung mit. Und dann mieteten sie ein Haus im Ferienort Sunriver, wo wir noch ein paar Tage zusammen verbringen konnten. Auf dem Rückweg nach Deutschland stoppten wir in New York, wohin Jennifer und Alex mit ihrer Tochter Lila vor kurzem zurückgezogen waren. Lila war Robins Klassenkameradin gewesen, und wir waren in dieser Zeit gute Freunde geworden. Jennifer und Alex hatten Sondra eingeladen, sodass wir sie sehen konnten, ohne nach Texas zu fliegen. Die Burrell/Dupuy family beherbergte uns in ihrem Zuhause in Manhattan, und alle zusammen, einschließlich Lila, zeigten uns ihre Stadt. Es war der entspannteste Manhattan-Besuch, den man sich vorstellen kann. Und das, obwohl es wahrscheinlich in Manhattan mehr Autos gibt als im Yellowstone-Nationalpark! |

Below you'll find, as always in reverse chronological order, some random events when I happened to carry a camera.
We started our trip there, went to Takakkaw Falls in Yoho where we overnighted in a tiny tent on a walk-in camp ground, and then went north on the Icefields Parkway, also known as Highway 93, to Jasper. We stopped to take a walk on the Athabasca Glacier, part of the huge Columbia Icefield.
I have split the trip into a couple of pages, loosely grouped by the main activity at that time. Since it's a couple weeks ago now, I'm not quite sure about every detail, so please fill in, Tom! ;-)

Holiday UpdateWe were in Germany during the holidays. Those were busy but happy days.We arrived on the 23rd, slept a few hours and then went straight to Anja's birthday party! For once, the jetlag worked in the proper direction so that we didn't feel like sleeping for most of the night :-). (No pictures of that, we focused on dancing and partying.) We then celebrated Christmas Eve with my mom and sister (there are no pics of that either — here too it was nicer to focus on the occasion). Then we visited my dad in Kleve where we relaxed for 3 days. It was good and important to see him and Martha and Bernd. There are plenty of pictures behind the link to the right. From there we went directly to Strodehne where we celebrated New Year's with Dörthe, Nicolas and the children. Robin and the kids had so much fun there as well. Back in Berlin we had only a few more days together before Michelle took Robin and me to the airport while she stayed behind for another two weeks on a Berlin work assignment. One of the longest separations for our little family so far. |
Der JahreswechselÜber die Feiertage waren wir in Deutschland, was anstrengend, aber auch schön war.Wir kamen am 23.12. an, schliefen ein paar Stunden und gingen dann direkt zu Anjas Geburtstagsparty im Institut für Lebenskunst! Endlich wirkte der Jetlag mal in der richtigen Richtung, sodass wir uns lange nicht müde fühlten. (Davon gibt es keine Bilder, wir konzentrierten uns aufs Tanzen und Feiern.) Den Heiligen Abend verbrachten wir mit meiner Mutter und meiner Schwester, wovon es auch keine Bilder gibt — auch hier wollte ich mich nicht mit Fotografieren ablenken. Zwischen den Jahren besuchten wir meinen Vater in Kleve, wo wir drei entspannte Tage verbrachten. Es war gut und wichtig, meinen Vater, Martha und Bernd zu sehen. Davon gibt es hinter dem Link rechts jede Menge Bilder. Von Kleve aus fuhren wir direkt nach Strodehne, wo wir mit Dörthe, Nicolas und den Kindern Silvester feierten. Auch Robin und die Kinder hatten viel Spaß! Danach hatten wir nur wenige Tage in Berlin zusammen, bevor uns Michelle zum Flughafen brachte. Sie selbst blieb zwei weitere Wochen zum Arbeiten in Berlin. |
